The old adage, "you are what you eat" tends to have some semblance of humor to it. However, the health narrative in the Bronx is far from humorous when examined closely. Current data suggests, the Bronx ranks 62nd among all New York counties and brands the borough as the most unhealthy when compared to all other boroughs. To compound this data, the quality of life is at an all-time low and obesity rates are at an all time high.
T.O.P Soccer recognizes these long standing issues have been significantly plaguing Bronxites and taking action to provide positive solutions is needed to break the cycle. As part of our action plan, nutritional awareness is woven into the fabric of our mission and vision to serve youth and community.
On Saturday, May 26, we had the esteemed privilege to partner with Allergic to Salad. The purpose of this nutrition programming was to empower children and families about fun ways to incorporate fruits and vegetables into the kitchen. A fantastic culinary exercise was done by Sharolyne Ramirez (Allergic to Salad educator), using a variety of green goodies.
The work of transcending unhealthy barriers must continue in order to help improve the lives of our community and T.O.P Soccer along with its partners are on a journey to tackle one plate at a time.
